removing the reverse rev limiter and keeping the light

My wife didn't like not having the light (Dindnt belive me it was in gear) so thanks to Ride or die for giving me a wiring diagram I found a way to eliminate the rev limiter in reverse but maintain the indicator light.
When your shifter is in reverse it will break a ground at the shifting unit which will switch a relay and connect a ground for the ECU and the dash light. it comes out as a single wire then splits and one goes to the dash and one to the ECU. So what I did was cut the signal going to the ECU after the Y from the relay. So the light still gets its signal and everything works the way it was intended but the ECU does not get its signal. If you don't want to cut the wire you could probably de-pin it.

This is working fine for me but do it at your own risk.

If take down the drivers side rear fender well you can see the ECU plug
Unplug the lighter colored one and find the Blue/Green wire
Cut it and tape everything back up.

guess i never thought of going at it this way. never really cared about the light but i guess i see her point. hopefully the programmable ecu we are trying to get will do this without cutting or removing any wires but in the mean time glad you pointed it out.

    Great work!
It also is not something that I have given much thought.
But since it is this simple I think I will remove my personal machines limiter also.

    Thanks for the Post!!!!

it sounds great, however I have a couple of questions 1- if your idea applies to the 800s?, to the 700s?, to all of them? 2- Does it kill the 4x4 light?

    Thanks,

    Thanks,

OK, question from the uninformed.... What is a reverse rev limiter and what does it do? What are the benefits to cutting it off?
    Thanks... Willie

You will not get full RPM while in reverse. This is to help keep the machine in control. But in fact you will be unable to get the machine out of many troubles like holes, inclines, anything that requires full power in reverse. Clipping the wire will let you still have the Reverse indicator on the dash but the limiter is disabled.
You can also install a switch so you can disable it when you want to, but still have it for other riders.

If you put that wire back together will it start? If so wrong wire. If it still don't start try some dielectric grease on the two connectors from the box.

I don't see it asked here yet.
When you turn the key on do you hear the fuel pump run and then shut off?

This sounds like a cool idea. Any ideas if it will work on a 2013 CF Moto Z6?
